So, it turns out that I had no infection-- they took blood cultures from three different spots (port and both arms), urine, throat, and X-rays and NOTHING. My fever was probably caused by a minor virus, but my blood levels all look good so they're not too worried about it.
The WEIRD thing is that my blood showed that I was having a severe allergic reaction. The doctor is pretty sure that all of my cold-like symptoms are because of that. And the best guess is the cat allergy since both times I was around cats, I got sick like this. It's weird that an allergic reaction could last 4 days (and get progressively worse), but they think my immune system is out of whack because of the chemo. I have been forbidden from going anywhere near cats for the remainder of my chemo (I think this means I am going back to the allergist). That means I can't go to my in-laws' apartment, and I can't go to Bible study. Goodbye to my whole support system-- I basically cannot leave my house.
I hate cats. Thanks for screwing up my life. I just have to hope that it goes away after chemo.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that something in my own house is contributing as I continued to get worse the last day or two. Dust maybe? I know I have a dust allergy, but it's never been much of an issue-- but maybe it's going crazy too!

Comment by Vanessa Brannan on January 25, 2012 at 10:06am Claratin did nothing for this. And I've had my mattress covered for years, but that doesn't change the dust in the carpet and the rest of the house. I'm just not able to keep up with keeping it dust-free. I usually only feel like this if I stir up a dust cloud, and it never lasts for days. It's crazy-- my immune system is SOO confused!
Comment by Don MacLeod on January 25, 2012 at 9:57am Hey Vanessa
Both my wife & I have dust mite & cat dander allergies. Our quality of life improved with a daily Claritin pill and the encapsulation of our mattress and pillows.
